Can having a good sense of humor help you advance in the workplace?

Where does humor come from? For most people, it cannot be explained. However, when you meet someone who is funny, it can change the dynamic of a room and your personal mood. People who’re self-deprecating can advance slightly faster than others in the workplace. Today, we’ll discuss some ways on how having a sense of humor can positively affect your status in the workplace.funny work blog-tw

Being open

The type of humor used in the workplace must depend on the type of culture. Certain types of humor are only effective in certain types of environments. This is why it’s important to ‘know your audience’ when displaying humor. It’s advantageous for people to display a relaxed and open disposition at work. By showing your personality and letting people in, you’re given more trust by others and tend to be more collaborative and innovative.

Books serve to show a man that those original thoughts of his aren’t very new after all.”

–Abraham Lincoln

Don’t take yourself too seriously

Employees or colleagues who choose to not display humor in the workplace tend to be more serious. If people take themselves too seriously, it can ostracize them from the rest of the workplace because other people feel less comfortable being around them. The stakes are higher when you’re joking with your boss rather than a colleague. Being honest and truthful when using humor can go a long way when dealing with upper management.

If a man smiles all the time, he’s probably selling something that doesn’t work.” –George Carlin

If you’re happier, you’ll perform better

According to a study by a Robert Half International survey, 91% of executives concur that having a sense of humor can help a person advance faster in the workplace. In addition, 84% of executives also think that a person with a good sense of humor does a better job at work. In conclusion, it seems that a humorous person tends to be happier and more productive in the workplace.

The best way to appreciate your job is to imagine yourself without one.” –Oscar Wilde

DiSC Personality Profile: Which style fits you?

What’s DiSC?

DiSC is a personal assessment survey that helps you better understand your personality. This is used to improve your work, collaborate with colleagues, and help your communication skills with others. Knowing your communication style will help you adapt to diffident types of situations and behaviors.shutterstock_150555248-us

High D’s are extremely motivated and enjoy challenges. A person with a D style will take action and be the person within a group who is proactive. They heavily value exact results and appreciate freedom.

People who have a dominant personality have difficulty showing patience or displaying sensitivity at times. While communicating in groups, D’s tend to take control of the conversation by getting to the bottom line quickly. They’re brief and tend to focus on solutions rather than discussing problems.

People with the I style value friendship and happiness. Their goals are to be popular, have authority, and win in style. Their outside appearance is very important to them. They struggle with researching all the facts, being direct, and staying focused for long periods of time. ‘Influencers’ prefer to ask questions and focus on the positive aspects rather than the negative. They don’t like to be interrupted.

People who are an S are motivated by cooperation and working with others in a team environment. These people can be afraid of change because they like their routine. If you’re a high S, you’re predictable, supportive, and indecisive. These people are often sensitive and accommodating to others. Their goals consist of group acceptance, keeping things fair, and making strides in their personal life.

If you’re a high C, you tend to work with precision accuracy and efficiency. They’re very hard workers and like to challenge the status quo. They tend to make quick decisions and participate in social events. C’s don’t like emotional language during conversations and prefer to stick to facts and details. They could be described as perfectionists or objective thinkers.

How to build your confidence

Do you think you a have a lot of confidence? If the answer is yes, you just might. Confidence is not something you can obtain overnight. It’s a gradual process that takes time to possess. Today, we’ll share some ideas that will help you gain more confidence in your everyday life.FB TW confidence blog

Be kind to yourself

Try not to be too hard on yourself. Make sure you take care of your body and mind. Try and exercise a few times a week. Eating healthy and getting enough sleep significantly affects your mood and increases effectiveness. This will help you become more resilient when you encounter failure.

“You yourself, as much as anyone in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” –Buddha

Fail towards your goal

It’s important to know what you want to achieve. Once you know what you want, you can create a road map on how to get there. The willingness to fail is the first step towards gaining true confidence. Being mentally tough and resilient is essential to achieving your goal. Failure isn’t a bad thing because you learn what doesn’t work. Above all else, you must maintain a positive attitude.

Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.” –Thomas Jefferson

Get out of your comfort zone

For substantial growth, it’s essential that you take risks. Try to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.  What’s frustrating for people who’re looking for more confidence is the fear of trying something new. Changing your routine will allow new ideas and opportunities to enter your mind. Taking more risks will help get you to where you want to go.

Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sail. Explore. Dream. Discover.” –Mark Twain

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Be clear about what you want to achieve. Write it down and look at it every day to remind yourself.  Hold yourself accountable for your goal and create deadlines to mark your progress. What’s helpful is telling other people about your desire for more confidence. Look to your friends for advice and support. Don’t feel like you’re alone on this journey. If you have good friends, they’ll be more than willing to help you or give you advice.

It is confidence in our bodies, minds, and spirits that allows us to keep looking for new adventures.”–Oprah Winfrey

Building confidence is something that can be achieved by anyone who puts in the effort. The most important thing to remember is that confidence isn’t given, it’s earned.

Which of these things makes you feel more confident? Accomplishing a goal? Losing weight? Having great friends? Vote here!

Change your password today!

Today, most of our personal information is available online. People communicate, make purchases, and record their finances through the touch of a button. Just by updating your password, you can help increase your online security. If you’re looking to protect your online information, see our tips below.change passwords i-Say

Select a strong password

A good rule of thumb is to not use personal information for a new password. When thinking of ideas, you should always stay away from birthdates or addresses. Avoid short, simple words or popular phrases. Longer passwords are usually more difficult to figure out.

Don’t keep all your passwords in the same place

It’s important to separate all of your passwords. If someone found your master document of passwords, ALL of your personal information would be at risk. Don’t take that chance. A simple solution would be to write them down. With everyone having so many accounts today, it’s hard to remember all of your passwords. When people can’t remember their password, they tend to reuse the same one.

Frequently change your password

If the same password is kept for too long, it increases the risk of someone figuring it out.  By updating it regularly, you reduce the risk of people repeatedly trying to access your account. It’s a good idea to change your password every few months.

Create a password that you’ll remember

Don’t make your new password too complicated. Most systems will give you a ‘HINT’ to help you remember it. To date, most people are told to create extremely complex phrases which are difficult to remember. Just think of something fun that amuses you.

Always feel safe

The most important element for your online account is your password. Your passwords are essential and hold the key to all your personal information including finances, online purchases, and email. If you want to know more about this subject, read our blog for helpful tips on how to keep your online information safe.

How to be more creative!

Creativity can be an elusive mystery sometimes. People yearn to be more creative but don’t really know how to do it. It can be difficult to define and figure out where it comes from. If you’re looking for ways on how to be more creative in your daily life, see our tips below.FB TW creativity

Start free writing

Free writing is a great technique that can spark ideas and enhance creativity. To free write, all you have to do is sit and start writing for a certain amount of time. The key is to never stop writing once you start. Don’t take any time to think about what you’re writing, just write. The objective is to let your mind wander and free associate any thoughts that come into your mind. This technique is used to help people overcome writer’s block.

Writer’s block is the fear of NOT being perfect.” ―Bob Odenkirk

Try not to do anything. Just sit down for 30 minutes and your mind will start to wander. Your best ideas will come when you’re not thinking about anything. Some of the best ideas come while you’re driving in the car, in the shower or when you’re not thinking at all.

I’m not much of a math and science guy. I spent most of my time in school daydreaming and managed to turn it into a living.” ―George Lucas

Make stuff up

To get the creative juices flowing, it’s important to improvise and make things up. Be open to new ideas and don’t be afraid to collaborate with other people. Somebody else’s idea might spark something in your mind to help expand your creativity.

Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while.” ―Steve Jobs

Be fearless

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. In order to be more creative, it’s important to try new things and take risks. If you keep doing the same thing over and over again, you won’t discover anything new.

You can’t be that kid standing at the top of the water slide overthinking it. You have to go down the chute.” ―Tina Fey

How to have a successful first date

First dates are tough. Most people are a little shy and aren’t sure about what to say. There are several tips that can help you when going on a first date. Online dating now provides all the background information you’d ever want. However, it all changes when you’re meeting that person face-to-face.FB TW first date blog

Look like you want to be there

Online dating has made people feel cynical about their chances of meeting someone. There are so many options available and now, people are going on more dates than ever. It’s important to be excited and smile when you first meet your date. If you’re tired or eager to get the check, the date will probably not go well.

Don’t drink too much

Most first dates take place at bars or restaurants. If you’re picking the place, it’s important that you select a public place that is quiet. Based on your date’s online profile, you should be able to see if they’re a drinker or not. It’s important to pace yourself if you’re consuming alcohol. If you know that you tend to drink more when you’re nervous, only have one drink. It’s never fun to be on a date with someone who is completely drunk.

Be honest with your date

Don’t lie to your date. If you’re thinking about embellishing a story or making something up about yourself, don’t! Your date should like you for the person you are, not the person you think they want. Lying will always come back to bite you in the long run.

What happens if you tell a small lie on your first date and you continue dating that person? You’ll have to keep up that lie forever! With so many social media channels, you’ll eventually get caught and it will be extremely embarrassing for you. It’s simple. Just be yourself!

Look good

Wearing nice clothes for your date is always a good idea. It’s important to dress appropriately for the occasion. In addition, where you decide to go should inform your outfit for that evening. If you can’t afford the type of clothes that are being worn in that place, you should probably pick a different spot to meet. Go somewhere you can afford!

Once again, it’s simple. Just be yourself!

The healthy way to deal with jealousy

We all have jealous or envious feelings sometimes. Some people feel ashamed about having these thoughts and they shouldn’t. Where does your jealousy come from? Relationships? Work? Family? Friends?jealousy FB tw

Regardless of where it comes from, the most important thing is how a person reacts and deals with it. To help, we’ll provide some tips on how to recognize and deal with jealousy.

Recognize your jealousy.

If you can’t recognize that you’re being jealous or irrational, it will be impossible to make progress. Most people don’t like to admit that they’re jealous of someone else because of personal pride.

Be happy with yourself.

Jealousy stems from feelings of inadequacy. If a person experienced a lot of insecurity when they were younger, it will often manifest itself into jealousy later in life. It’s important that you like yourself and believe that you have something to offer. Focusing on yourself rather than someone else is a great way to have gratitude for the things you DO have, not the things you DON’T have.

Surround yourself with supportive people.

It’s extremely important to have friends that you can talk to about these feelings. Your support group should be open and listen to anything you have to say without passing judgement. If you’re in a relationship, you should be discussing these feelings with your partner, not just your friends.

You’re going to be alright.

Social media has made many people feel inadequate. People are now judging themselves based on what they see on the internet. A healthier way to live is to create your own definition of success. By creating your own personal goals, you’ll be more focused on yourself and will have more success.
